| Mode of Action |
Fluconazole inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α demethylase. This inhibition prevents the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cytoplasmic membrane, and subsequent accumulation of 14α-methyl sterols. Fluconazole is primarily fungistatic. |
| Indication |
Fluconazole is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of fungal infection including:
Candidiasis caused by susceptible strains of Candida
Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris or Tinea pedis
Onychomycosis.

| Dosage |
Tinea infections: 150 mg for 4 weeks to 6 months depending upon condition & area involvement.
Vulvo-Vaginal Candidiasis: 150 mg as single dose |

COMMON
Dermatologic: Pruritus, Rash
Gastrointestinal: Nausea, Vomiting
Hepatic: Increased liver enzymes
Neurologic: Headache
SERIOUS
Immunologic: Anaphylaxis (rare)

Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or other azole antifungals. |
